Before the first performance in Spain the band had a few days off in Madrid, giving us a much needed chance to rest and check out the art museums. Stunned by the Velasquez at the Prado; Picasso, Miro, and Tapies at the Reina Sofia. Particularly when looking at the work of these later three painters, I was struck by the clear and flexible ways they had found to solve the problems of presenting ideas on a two dimensional plane. I walked away from the museum further motivated to struggle with the chronology of time. Like the paintings of Tapies, can it also be made to become plastic?
