Went to see “Krapp’s Last Tape,” by Beckett, played by Brian Dennehy at the Goodman Theater in Chicago. Dennehy’s performance was nearly destroyed by a technical problem that stopped the play midway, and one of the rudest audiences I’ve ever encountered in my life: talking, coughing endlessly, opening candy wrapp…ers, watches going off… clearly too many people were there for a “celebrity sighting,” and don’t realize that all of that sound is completely audiable on stage. With all of these distractions going on it was nearly a miracle that Dennehy was able to get the play accross, both he and Beckett deserved much, much better.
