Chicago/Texas Sound Ensemble: Austin, Monk’s Jazz Club (show 2)

In late May of 2025, Chris Cogburn in partnership with No Idea Festival hosted Ken Vandermark at Monk’s Jazz Club in Austin for a weekend residency.  Cogburn and Vandermark assembled a group of Texas based musicians to play some of Vandermark’s original compositions.  What was meant to be a one off performance went so well, it was unanimously decided amongst the quintet that they should continue to work together, later choosing the name Chicago/Texas Sound Ensemble.  This group highlights the creative and musical rapport that has always been shared between Texas and the Midwest.  In summer 2026, these musicians will be recording a full length album. The group looks forward to reaching further and seeing where they can go.
