Chicago/Texas Sound Ensemble: Monks, Austin, show two: 9:30pm

On Friday, August 14th, the Chicago/Texas Sound Ensemble will reconvene at Monks for two shows: one at 7:30pm and one at 9:30pm.  The performances by this quintet with Kory Cook (drums), Matthew Frerck (bass), Stefan González (vibraphone), and Jonathan Horne (guitar) will be in preparation for a recording session to document the work the group developed while on tour in Texas during May.  It’s a book of nine compositions with tunes from everyone involved, pieces that range from powerhouse free jazz to textural landscapes to vamp-driven grooves.  The recordings on August 16th will be for an album that will be released to coincide with a tour in the Midwest early next year.  The Chicago/Texas Sound Ensemble shows at Monks during May were both SRO.  It’s a good idea to get tickets in advance to reserve a seat and hear the penultimate statement by the band before this music gets documented by engineer Stuart Sikes in the studio!
