Feel like I’m back in Chicago with a concert- Kent Kessler and Nate McBride play a fine duo at Elastic, followed by the first real duo encounter between me and James Falzone (really enjoyable to play only clarinets, Free Fall is my only outlet for this and to bounce ideas off of another horn player was a pleasure…).

James and I are very different players but seemingly complimentary musicians. To use an analogy, he seems “cubist” with his ideas, looking at a phrase from many angles, whereas I approach things more linearly. Tying the dialog together was fascinating, moving from melodic to textural, a real musical conversation.

One of my favorite German artist’s birthday- Wols (Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze), also on Tate.
