The crazy pace continues. Friday morning I get up at 5am and fly to
Chicago, work on Eric Revis material for gig on Saturday in NY with his
quartet, make a vain attempt to catch up on a 10 day backlog of email.
Finally watch, “Hunger,” by Steve McQueen (Jason Moran had recommended
it months ago)- the best film I’ve
seen in ages, from the first frame it was clear that it was going to be
brilliant. Saturday morning I rehearsed with Powerhouse Sound for our
gig Sunday at the Hungary Brain, then got on a plane to NY to play with
the Eric Revis Quartet (w/Moran and Nasheet Waits) at the Jazz Gallery
for the CareFusion Jazz Festival. The 2 sets by the band were very
strong musically, even more focused and intense than the concerts last
August; the room was packed and appreciated all night. Looks like
there’s a window of opportunity to bring the quartet to the Green Mill
next January/February… Interview with McQueen:
