First full day in Morelia was packed- a press conference followed by a
master class (was asked to critique an ensemble performance of Wayne
Shorter’s, “Footprints;” something I don’t enjoy because too often the
comments are read as only negative. Things went well, sat in with the
group, explaining how using strong
melodic phrases can help a player overcome mere “chord navigation;”

B.,” of course!). Then I walked through some of the city taking
photographs, incredible buildings from the 1700’s. Back in the hotel
wrote a new piece for Free Fall, and in the evening met the rest of the
