Edition Redux: Sound & Gravity Festival
Edition Redux performs as part of Chicago’s Sound & Gravity Festival on a bill at The Hungry Brain that includes Cooper Moore and Darius Jones. Beth McDonald (tuba/electronics), Erez Dessel (piano/Nord synthesizer), Lily Finnegan (drums), and Ken Vandermark (reeds) have just completed their success at The Green Mill as part of the sextet Edition XL, which includes Josh Berman (cornet) and Nick Macri (acoustic & electric bass). The quartet will be performing a new book of music Vandermark has composed, which will be recorded in Amsterdam after the group’s tour in Europe during the first half of October.
The band’s first album, “Better A Rook Than A Pawn” was picked as “The Best Jazz on Bandcamp, January 2024” and their follow up recording, “Broadcast Transformer”, received 4 starts in All About Jazz. They were featured at the Festival Internacional Jazz Madrid and Music Unlimited 38 festival in Wels, Austria during their second tour of Europe in November of 2024. On September 11, Editon Redux will be performing as part of the Sound & Gravity Festival taking place in Chicago between September 10-14, and in late October the ensemble will travel to play at an improvised music festival in China for the first time.
